Who We Serve

The Gwinnett County School System reports that it served over 3,000 homeless students during the 2005-2006 school year. However, there are no shelters for homeless families in Gwinnett County. Therefore, Family Promise of Gwinnett County serves families only. We define family broadly – a minimum of a guardian with a child under the age of 18. We do not serve individuals or couples without children.

All Families are screened prior to admission. Screening includes a program interview, criminal background check, TB test and proof of residency in Gwinnett County. A family is expected to be willing to work on a plan for self-sufficiency. If we cannot serve a family, we make appropriate referrals to an organization that can better provide for their needs. For instance, we refer persons with a current addiction to drugs or alcohol, severe mental illness, or current domestic violence.
